A photo of a tanker with the name \u201cAnwaar Al Naser\u201d has been circulating on\u00a0social media,<\/a>\u00a0with the following claim: \u201cAnwaar Al Naser in Israel, a Libyan oil tanker docked at the port of Haifa coming from Tripoli.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

Kashif verified the image via \u201cGoogle Images\u201d tool and found that it is old and the claim is misleading. On 15 August 2014, the\u00a0\u201clibyaherald\u201d<\/a>\u00a0published the image in a report titled: \u201cAnother fuel tanker enters Tripoli port loaded with 14 million liters of gasoline.\u201d The website added in the description of the image: \u201cThe fuel tanker Anwaar Al Naser arrived at Tripoli port carrying 14 million liters of gasoline.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

The Libyan News Agency\u00a0\u00a0<\/a>reported on 14 August 2014, quoting the Libyan National Oil Corporation and the Brega Oil Marketing Company, that the quantities of fuel withdrawn by the distribution companies from the temporary distribution point in the port of Tripoli amounted to one million four hundred and forty liters of gasoline, and the ships were supplied with it for distribution.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0The\u00a0<\/a>National Oil Corporation<\/a>\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0denied in a statement dated 21 August 2024 via its account on \u201cX\u201d the circulated claim, considering it \u201can attempt to confuse the corporation\u201d and added that \u201cthe competent administration is in continuous communication and closely monitoring the movement of tankers and shipping operations through modern and reliable monitoring and navigation systems on the movement of tankers around the world, including the Mediterranean basin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kashif’s team also tracked the path of the tanker \u201cAnwaar Al Naser\u201d via \u201c\u00a0marinetraffic<\/a>\u00a0\u201d on 22 August 2024 , and found that it was heading towards the island of Cyprus and not the port of Haifa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
