The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced that 105 martyrs and 530 injuries arrived at Gaza hospitals over the past 24 hours as a result of the occupation’s targeting of various areas in the Gaza Strip. This brings the death toll since 7 October 2023, to 57,680 martyrs and 137,409 injuries.
Ceasefire talks between Hamas and Israel are still ongoing in the Qatari capital, Doha, without a final, specific agreement on when the ceasefire will take effect.
On 2 July 2025, US President Donald Trump announced a new ceasefire initiative between the Israeli occupation and Hamas. The initiative includes a temporary truce for 60 days, a partial withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, and the entry of humanitarian aid under the supervision of the United Nations and the Red Crescent. The initiative also includes the gradual release of ten living Israeli prisoners and 18 bodies, in exchange for launching negotiations aimed at reaching a permanent agreement regulating the security and political situation in Gaza after the war.
Hamas submitted its official response to the proposal on Friday evening, 5 July 2025. The response included amendments, most notably a demand for written guarantees from the United States and mediators obligating the occupation not to resume aggression after the truce ends, setting a clear timetable for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the entire Gaza Strip, and providing humanitarian and reconstruction facilities. The following day, Saturday, 6 July 2025, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement describing the amendments submitted by Hamas as “unacceptable.” The Israeli government stated that a negotiating delegation would leave for the Qatari capital, Doha, on 6 July 2025, to participate in meetings regarding the deal.
Arab media reported that during the fifth round of negotiations in the Qatari capital, Doha, the Israeli delegation affirmed its adherence to the “current mechanism” for distributing aid through the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which is supported by the Israeli government and the United States. US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, also announced that the obstacle standing in the way of the deal is the Israeli withdrawal from the Morag axis, which separates the cities of Khan Yunis and Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
On 9 July 2025, Hamas issued a statement saying, “The Hamas leadership continues its intensive and responsible efforts to ensure the success of the current round of negotiations. The movement has demonstrated the necessary flexibility and agreed to the release of ten prisoners. It added, “The core points remain under negotiation, most notably: the flow of aid, the occupation’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and the provision of genuine guarantees for a permanent ceasefire.”
