A photo of Ali Shamkhani, a senior advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader, lying in a hospital bed has been circulating on social media, with claims that it was recently released after he was injured in an Israeli airstrike on his residence on 13 June 2025. The photo was accompanied by the following text: “Iran is distributing a photo of Ali Shamkhani, a senior advisor to Khamenei, who survived an assassination attempt by Israel.”

Kashif verified the image via Google Image search, found that it was old and mislabeled. The image was circulated in 2023 and has no connection to the ongoing events between the Israeli occupation and Iran.

Iranian media agencies, including rouydad24, published the photo on 17 March 2023, indicating that it was of Shamkhani after undergoing surgery.

The photo was published by rouydad24 agency on March 17, 2023.

The photo was also published by Al-Sharq Network on 17 March 2023, with the following description: “Former Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, underwent surgery.”

Iranian media reported on 16 May 2025, that Ali Shamkhani, an advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader, is still receiving intensive care in the hospital after sustaining serious injuries in an Israeli airstrike on his residence on 13 June 2025. According to Iranian Tasnim News Agency, “The medical team supervising Shamkhani’s condition has become ‘relatively stable,’ after a large portion of the injuries he sustained as a result of the attack were brought under control.”

The military escalation between Iran and the Israeli occupation, which began on 13 June 2025, continued to 24 June 2025. The Israeli occupation launched intensive raids as part of an operation dubbed “Rising Lion,” targeting nuclear facilities, sites, and military leaders inside Iran. In response, Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones. This escalation resulted in the deaths of 224 people and the injury of more than 1,277 people in Iran, as well as the deaths of 19 Israelis and 5 Palestinians from the occupied territories. Meanwhile, confrontations and mutual threats continue, amid international warnings of an escalation of the war.
