Old photo of girls in Egypt, not Yazidi girls in Idlib 

Accounts on X posted a photo showing a group of girls wearing white clothes inside an iron cage surrounded by a group of citizens, claiming that the photo was recent and shows “Yazidi captives in the Clock Square in Idlib.” 

Kashif verified the image via Google Image Search, Kashif found that the image is old and the claim is misleading. The image shows a group of girls protesting in Egypt in 2013, not a recent photo of Yazidi women in the Clock Square in Idlib. 

“SharkiaToday” Facebook page posted the circulated photo on 6/12/2013, with the following caption: “Photo: Girls placing themselves inside an iron cage in a march in solidarity with the girls of Alexandria.” The “Alexandria girls” case was also known as the “7 am girls” case. 

On the same date, 6 /12/2013, Al- Shorouk website reported that female students affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood wore white clothes, placed themselves in a replica of an iron cage mounted on a car, and raised yellow banners bearing the Rabaa sign during a march by supporters of the late Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi in the city of Abu El Matamir in Beheira Governorate. 

Deutsche Welle reported on 12/7/2013 that the Alexandria Court of Appeal decided to reduce the sentences issued against 14 girls known as the “7 am Girls” case to one year suspended, and acquitted seven minor girls, placing them on probation for three months. The fourteen girls had been sentenced to 11 years in prison, and the seven minors were placed in a juvenile care home, after they participated in a demonstration in support of the late President Mohamed Morsi.
