Video of child being targeted in Gaza after ceasefire is real

“Gazawood1” account on X published a video clip of two scenes of a child being shot and then being dragged and then killed, claiming that it was fabricated and edited. The video was accompanied by the following description: “From the limited footage seen in the heavily edited video released yesterday, it is difficult to understand the full context. However, many visual details still provide important insight,” indicating that the video is not real.

    Source of the claim

Kashif verified the claim and found it to be misleading. Photographer Hassan Islayh who took the first scene, told Kashif that the video is real and was taken on the second day of the ceasefire announcement in the Gaza Strip on 20/1/2025. It documents the moment the Israeli occupation army opened fire on child “Zakaria Hamid Yahya Barbakh” near the Al-Awda roundabout in the center of Rafah city, and opened fire on the young man who was trying to save him and pull his body.

eye.on.palestine published the video clip on 20/1/2025

This was confirmed by journalist Ashraf Ramadan, who took the video in the second scene of the child being targeted, “The video is real and the event took place in front of him, as the Israeli occupation tanks fired randomly and directly at the child, which led to him being shot in the neck. They also fired at the young man who tried to rescue him dragging his body.”

Ramadan also provided Kashif with a video clip of the moment the child was killed after Israeli tanks stopped firing at him. The child appears to have been shot in the neck.

The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip entered into force on Sunday, 19/1/2025, after Israel announced that it had received the names of three female detainees who were released on the same day.  The Israeli occupation forces released 90 female prisoners and children from Ofer Prison, southwest of Ramallah, as part of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement.

The death toll from the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip has risen to 47,107 and 111,147 injuries since 7/10/2023, according to the latest update from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.
