Accounts on “X” published a picture of a huge fire, claiming that it was in Tel Aviv, and the picture was accompanied by the following description: “Now we hear explosions in Tel Aviv and fires are raging in industrial facilities.”
Kashif verified the image via “Google Images” tool and found that it is old and was incorrectly linked to Hezbollah’s targeting of the surroundings of Tel Aviv and Haifa on Saturday, 2/11/2024. The image is of a fire in an oil storage facility belonging to Saudi Aramco in March 2022.
Reuters published a set of photos from different angles, including the photo circulated on 25/3/2022, with the following description: “A view of a fire at Saudi petroleum storage facility, after an attack, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, March 25, 2022. Reuters/Stringer.”
Reuters published a report on 26/3/2022 under the title “Saudi Aramco petroleum storage site attacked by Houthis, fire breaks out,” which included a video clip documenting the fire. The agency stated that “the Houthis announced launching attacks on Saudi energy facilities on Friday.”
The report added, “The Saudi-led coalition said that the petroleum products distribution station of the oil giant Aramco in Jeddah was hit, causing a fire to break out in two storage tanks, but there were no injuries.”
The spokesman of the Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, announced in a statement on “X” on 25/3/2022 “that Aramco Jizan and Najran were targeted with large numbers of drones.”
