A statement attributed to Palestinian Foreign Minister Farsin Aghabekian spread on social media during a briefing session held on Wednesday, 13 August 2025, regarding the efforts of the Palestinian presidency and government to halt the genocide.
The claim alleged that the minister said: “We hope President Trump will be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and that our cause will be resolved.”
Media outlets circulated a slightly different version of the statement: “We support awarding President Trump the Nobel Peace Prize if the Palestinian cause is resolved.”
Kashif verified these claims and found them inaccurate, it reviewed the live video broadcast by Palestine TV, titled: Briefing Session by Foreign Minister Varsin Aghabekian on the Leadership’s Efforts to Stop the Genocide.
It confirmed that Minister Aghabekian did not say: “We hope President Trump will be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and that our cause will be resolved,” nor did she say: “We support awarding President Trump the Nobel Peace Prize if our cause is resolved.” Instead, her exact words were: “President Trump will run for the Nobel Peace Prize, and this could happen if the Palestinian issue is resolved, because it is one of the world’s most intractable problems. The time has come to respect Palestinian rights.”
Her comment came in response to a journalist’s question about the Palestinian Authority’s relationship with the United States, specifically after minute 48 of the session.
On the same day, Wednesday, 13 August 2025, Minister Aghabekian also held a press conference in which she reaffirmed that the Gaza Strip is an inseparable part of the Palestinian state, stressing the need to unify authority under one government and one weapon, with Arab and international support.
