A video clip of an Al Arabiya presenter announcing an agreement between the Israeli occupation forces and Egypt to reopen the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt has been circulating on social media, “Israel has agreed with Egypt to reopen the Rafah border crossing.”
Kashif verified the video via Google search, found it to be old, the information misleading, and no announcement has been made about the Rafah crossing being reopened soon.
The video was posted by Al Arabiya on YouTube on 30 May 2024, with the following description: “Israel Broadcasting Authority: Israel has agreed in principle with Egypt to reopen the Rafah crossing.”

Meanwhile, an Egyptian source denied , on May 31, 2024, the veracity of reports circulating regarding an Egyptian-Israeli agreement to reopen the Rafah border crossing. He said, “There is no truth to what some media outlets have reported about an Egyptian-Israeli agreement to reopen the Rafah crossing. The source affirmed Egypt’s commitment to a complete Israeli withdrawal from the crossing as a condition for resuming operations.”
The Israeli occupation has continued its occupation and closure of the Rafah land crossing since 7 May 2024, preventing the movement of travelers, patients, and the wounded through it, as well as preventing the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
On 2 July 2025, US President Donald Trump announced a new ceasefire initiative between the Israeli occupation and Hamas. The initiative includes a temporary truce for 60 days, a partial withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, and the entry of humanitarian aid under the supervision of the United Nations and the Red Crescent. The initiative also includes the gradual release of ten living Israeli prisoners and 18 bodies, in exchange for launching negotiations aimed at reaching a permanent agreement regulating the security and political situation in Gaza after the war.
Hamas submitted its official response to the proposal on Friday evening, 5 July 2025. The response included amendments, most notably a demand for written guarantees from the United States and mediators obligating Israel not to resume aggression after the truce ends, setting a clear timetable for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the entire Gaza Strip, and providing humanitarian and reconstruction facilities. The following day, Saturday, 6 July 2025, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement describing the amendments submitted by Hamas as “unacceptable.” The Israeli government stated that a negotiating delegation would leave for the Qatari capital, Doha, on 6 July 2025, to participate in meetings regarding the deal.
