Information has spread on WhatsApp groups claiming that the village of Anin, Jenin District, has been declared an area infected with rabies after a group of citizens were attacked and bitten by a rabid dog.
Kashif verified the information and found it to be inaccurate. Kashif contacted the Director General of Health in Jenin, Dr. Wissam Subaihat, who denied what is being circulated about declaring the village of Anin an epidemic area. He added: “The Ministry of Health dealt with eight citizens from the village of Anin who were bitten by a dog that was diagnosed with rabies. The citizens were given the necessary vaccines, and the infected dog was killed.” Subaihat confirmed: “Rabies is a viral disease that is not contagious and is not transmitted through contact or mosquitoes, but rather through rabid animals or exposure to bites. Therefore, we call for the necessity of adhering to preventive measures, including combating waste, maintaining cleanliness, not dealing with rabid animals, and going to the competent authorities.”
