A photo of a damaged iPhone has been widely shared on social media, with the claim that the photo is from the incident of wireless devices exploding on Wednesday 18 September 2024, in Lebanon.
Kashif verified the claim, and via reverse search using “Google images” tool it found that it is old and incorrectly linked to the incident of wireless devices exploding in Lebanon on Wednesdays. The image was published by Cairo 24 on 19 March 2021 in a report with the following title: “An iPhone explosion causes a fire and breaks a child’s arm in Maadi”.
On 18 September 2024 Icom wireless devices exploded with their carriers inside homes in different areas of southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Lebanon. The Lebanese Ministry of Health also announced that the explosions resulted in the deaths of 9 people and more than 300 injuries until the time of preparing the verification.
